Bedside Manners is an arts residency devised with staff at Evelina Hospital School, Evelina Children’s Hospital (ECH), producer/educationalist Anna Ledgard and artist Sofie Layton.
Since November 2012 Sofie Layton has worked for a day a week in the hospital Renal unit, Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and main wards alongside Evelina Hospital school teaching staff and play therapists.
Parents were invited by Sofie to create postcard-sized art works in a range of materials using different techniques – e.g. embossing into an outline the form of an organ heart, kidney or cellular form which has been screen printed onto thin aluminium rectangles or embroidering organs which relate to their children’s illnesses.
These artworks will be incorporated into an visual and sound installation which will re-create a typical hospital bay. It will be open to the public 10 – 5pm, 9 – 12 July 2013 in the Atrium of the Evelina Children’s Hospital. Bedside Manners has been supported by the British Kidney Patient Association and Guy’s and St Thomas’ Charity.
