An arts and science collaboration with Sofie Layton and bio-medical researcher Dr Giovanni Biglino leading to a public exhibition tour in 2018 in Bristol, London and Newcastle. Supported by a Wellcome Trust Society Award.
The Heart of the Matter is an interdisciplinary exploration of the heart, its narratives and forms, with a strong participatory element. We are working with leading cardiovascular centres in London, Bristol and Newcastle and will collaborate with cultural centres in each city to build local audience participation. A final exhibition will tour in Spring-Autumn 2018.
The project will explore biomedical as well as experiential aspects of the heart and heart disease. Narratives/designs will be turned into a series of ‘poetic hearts’ (e.g. soundscapes, music composition, sculpture, textiles, digital animations…) in dialogue with the corresponding ‘medical hearts’ manufactured using 3D printing technology. The exhibition will illuminate the dialogue between the ‘medical’ and the ‘poetic’ stimulating reflection for all of us on the uniqueness of the human heart.
The Heart of the Matter is produced by Great Ormond Street Hospital Go Create! and Anna Ledgard in association with Artsadmin.
Supported by the Wellcome Trust, Arts Council England and the Blavatnik Family Foundation.
